THE BIGGEST LOSER

I love to watch reality t.v. and one of the shows that I watch on a regular basis the Biggest Loser. The reason I love to watch this show is because it is so inspiring and I am such an underdog advocate. There isn't one show that I've seen that I haven't cried while watching it. Last week's show was about teaching the contestants how workout outside and not having to be dependent on a gym. One image that I saw on the show was of some of the contestants outside playing in the mud and getting completely drenched in mud. They said they were having fun but I don't think it was the best image to show on t.v. If someone who may be critical of the fat community were flipping through the channels and saw this image it would perpetrate the view of fat people looking like sloppy pigs. I think that during the editing process it was purposely shown to objectify the contestants. I think to maintain the integrity of the show that scene should have been left out. It just makes me leery about t.v. programs such as these that advertise that they are 'helping' people.

  1. It almost seems like your critical of the "fat community". Where is this community? Is there a "skinny community"? So what would you think if you saw thin people playing in mud? Are you associating fat with the word sloppy?

  2. I'm glad you brought that up because "THEY" say the show is about helping people but it's more about exploiting people for RATINGS! Those contestants need to put their foot down and refuse to do some of the HUMILIATING things they are asked to do on National TV. Personally I haven't seen the Biggest Loser but I used to watch Survivor years ago when it first came out and loved it. Lately it's changed into a drama fest for ratings and anything goes so I stopped watching it. Again they are exploiting people by causing conflict amongst them and forcing them to argue and back stab each other on National TV for RATINGS! I have a very small selection of stuff I watch on TV because 90% of it is JUNK. Just like that Flavor Flav show - what a mess! Having those young ladies fight against each other to win him over. He looks old enough to be their grandfather with a history of self destruction. I hope the folks on the Biggest Loser take advantage of the resources from that show so they can lose the weight.

  4. Yes, television producers do whatever they can to get a bigger rating. However, no one makes anyone be a contestant on a reality show. If they sign up, they have to be prepared to take what comes. -JK
